Performance Zoning

Introduction

Most zoning in the US is Euclidean: well-defined uses allowed in specific, discrete places.  Various kinds of uses are generally separated (residential, commercial, agricultural, etc.) and conformance is based on very specific conditions (#s of customers, sq ft of space use, etc.)

Performance zoning, on the other, outlines a set of outcomes based on values of the community.  Developers and neighborhood then collaborate to establish how they're meeting the criteria, subject to review and verification by municipality.
